The Woodlands Texas Restaurant Chew and Reviews

$1 Burgers at Bar Louie

The Woodlands has a plethora of restaurants and a splattering of bars, many of them all located in Town Center. The Waterway District in The Woodlands is fast becoming a prime location to get your drink on and/or grab a bite to eat.

She said – If you haven’t noticed yet, I have an affinity for a bacon cheeseburger. There’s just something in me that says if I’m going to indulge in having a burger, I may as well go all-out and add the extra dairy and pork. It’s not like that’s how I grew up or anything. All during my childhood I don’t recall a single time Dad ever fried up some bacon the same nights he ever grilled burgers. But anyway, the enticement of getting a bacon cheeseburger for a mere $2.75 was too much to pass up. I mean, really. That’s less than most fast-food places, and for a better product.

When my burger arrived, it was hot, the cheese was melty, and the bacon was cooked just the way I like it; floppy-crispy. I don’t want to chip a tooth on super-cooked bacon nestled into my otherwise soft sandwich, you know what I mean? But for all the appeal the burger had in presentation and preparation, it was lacking in the flavor department. It wasn’t bad, it just lacked any discernible seasoning in the beef. Granted, good ground beef doesn’t need a whole lot of seasonings, and some places go overboard, but a little salt & pepper can go a long way. The bacon had nice flavor, and the cheddar was of decent quality as well, not all oily. I wish the lettuce and tomato had been in slightly better shape, they seem to have been kept out in the warmth of the kitchen a bit too long. But all in all, it was a good burger – and for dollar burger night, what more could you ask for?

Pepperjack Cheeseburger

He said – The burgers at Bar Louie may not be the best we’ve ever had, but they certainly aren’t the worst. The meat patty was thick and held together well while not being too greasy, but it would have better had it included some actual seasoning. The tomato slices did not appear to be very fresh, or at least they weren’t kept at a cold temperature, as they had become soft and wilted. The lettuce appeared to be fresh and the cheese was delightfully melted into the grooves and across the ridges of the meat.

Frequently we notice that the lettuce, the vegetables, or even the French fries or other sides are the stars of our meals, while the main course was lacking. This was not exactly the case at Bar Louie. My pepperjack cheeseburger with guacamole ($2.50) was much better than ‘typical bar food,’ the bun was soft and fresh, the hefty meat patty actually out-shined the lettuce and tomato, the guacamole had a fresh texture to it and was quite tasty, especially when note that Bar Louie is not a Tex-Mex restaurant. The fries (side order, $4.00) were a little thicker than typical shoestring fries and were cooked thoroughly resulting in a nice texture and decent flavor overall. Personally, I like the thicker cut fries such as those you get at Five Guys or Jax, though I don’t care for the even thicker cut, “steak fries” you get at Red Robin.

Packing It Up

Yes, the burgers were priced as listed at Bar Louie and you can get one too. In an obvious effort to increase sales on traditionally slower nights at the bar, on Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to close burgers start at just $1.00, which gets you the beef, bun and lettuce. All the other toppings your heart (or tummy) desire are $0.25 – $0.50 a piece, including those that typically run much higher at other restaurants, like bacon, guacamole, fried eggs, etc. The ‘catch’ is you do have to purchase a drink to get the dollar burger, but it doesn’t have to be of the adult variety – making for what could be an incredibly affordable family outing. Our meal came to all of $15.62 with tax, or about $7.80 each; not bad for two good burgers, more fries than we could finish, and two drinks with free refills. And seeing as how we have yet to experience a bad server at Bar Louie, those refills keep coming at a steady pace.

So where’s your favorite bargain burger in The Woodlands? If you haven’t decided yet, give Bar Louie a try; this promotion just started and may not be around for long. Let us know what you decide in the comments below.
